DWW Kicks Off 2010 Fall Series!

Paddlers of all ages and abilities took to the course with the goal of going fast and being clean. This race marks the first of a series of informal saturday slalom races, in which paddlers will compete for cash prizes and the title of overall series champion.
Announcing The New 2010 Fall Slalom Series

This series of four Saturday slalom races is designed to give paddlers many more fun and competitive events at the end of the season. If you have never races slalom before, this is a fantastic chance to hone your skills and challenge your paddling on smaller water before it is time to hit the ski hill. For those who are experienced slalom racers, this is an opportunity to get a couple of races in before winter training, and also win some cool prizes.

DWW Athletes Make a Splash at the 2010 FibArk Festival

Durango Whitewater athletes were well represented in the 2010 FibArk Whitewater Festival. With one of the most competative slalom races seen in Colorado in many years, DWW athletes of all ages raced, played, and took home prizes all weekend! There were many notable performances both on and off the water, including Rogan Brown's Third Place finish in the Jr Men's freestyle, and fourth place finish in the Tenderfoot Hill Climb. Congratulations to all of the paddlers who represented Durango at the Festival both on and off the water.

Nic Borst, a native of CO has joined Durango Whitewater in an effort to get the program up and running again. Nic, a graduate of Gettysburg College in PA. has been a full time paddler and coach for the past ten years. Hello Everyone,
This is mainly to all the coaches and teams who participated in the Trials held here last spring. I have pictures to send out, but no addresses to send them to. I know a few coaches gave me their addresses and a list of bib numbers of their athletes--however, in the stress of the summer* these were lost.
Please resubmit the info if you are still interested. I will hold the pictures until New Year's 2010, and then delete them. At that point, you will have to contact Stacey Hepp at USACanoe/Kayak for any images.

Long before we began seeing kayakers negotiating gnarly creeks and careening down waterfalls on the pages of magazines and on our television screens, a cadre of Durango whitewater enthusiasts were quietly running the next river, practicing the perfect eddy turn, searching out a great adrenalin rush. It is not surprising, therefore, that a program such as the one offered by Durango Whitewater Center of Excellence would grow in the fertile water-sport soil of Durango, Colorado.
